Hello ev1. This is my first independent journalistic story. Please read the passage from it:
Promilitary guys in balaclavas and camouflage loitering streets, strong smell of burnt rubber, red, white and black flags are everywhere, climate of tension and fear – this is Kiev today. Some sturdy guys with ultranationalist logos on their sleeves stop me. But when they learn that I'm a Briton they start speaking broken English.
"We just want clean our country and eliminate all enemies of Ukraine." tells one of them. "Ukraine is above all!"I asked him, who are those enemies. It turned out that Ukrainian enemies are criminal and corrupted government, and 'moskals', and homosexuals.
After my question about Jews those UNA-UNSO 'warriors' exchange glances. Their leader says as if he was learning it by heart for hours: 'Honest Jews have nothing to fear. There are no anti-Semites among us.' But his brothers-in arms are trying hard to hide meaningful smirks.
In actual fact those UNA-UNSO guys were lying in throat for keeping their image of 'fighters for freedom'. It is well known that ultranationalists attack Jews all over the country. Synagogue in the centre of Kiev is empty. Even common pedestrians try hard to avoid passing it.
So it seems that Fascism has been revived in Ukraine. Oppressions of Jews and homosexuals are the first sign of it. The ultranationalist opposition pretends to be striving into EU. At the same time they proclaim 'Ukraine is above all!' on every street corner. There is every reason to believe that Europe would get another Reich right at hand.
